Samoa Community Development Projects
Three key projects 1. Clean Water, 2. Safer Communities and 3. Better Educational Opportunities
Every Home Global Concern is supporting practical community development projects across Samoa’s two main islands, Upolu and Savai‘i, with a particular focus on reaching villages and remote communities where access to essential infrastructure, reliable lighting and educational resources can be limited.
Our Samoa projects are designed around practical, locally identified needs. By investing in water storage, solar-powered lighting and educational technology, we can help communities become safer, more resilient and better equipped to create opportunities for children, young people and families.
1.Clean Water and Water Security
Reliable access to water is essential for healthy and resilient communities. Every Home Global Concern is helping provide large-capacity water tanks to communities in Samoa, including villages on both Upolu and Savai‘i.
Water tanks provide an important means of capturing and storing rainwater, increasing the availability of water for families and community facilities and providing greater resilience when normal water supplies are interrupted or under pressure. Three water tanks have already been delivered to the Faleasi‘u community on Upolu and the Samalaeulu community on Savaii and as part of the current program of assistance.
Our goal is to continue expanding this practical support to communities across Samoa where improved water storage can make a lasting difference.
2.Solar-Powered Lights – Creating Safer Villages
For many villages across Samoa, solar-powered lighting is a vital community safety need.
On the island of Savai‘i and in outer villages of Upolu, there is limited or no local police presence within many communities. Traditionally, village leadership plays an important role in maintaining order and community safety, with village Chiefs and local leaders walking through their communities and helping to keep residents safe.
Village Chiefs have reached out to us directly, asking for assistance to improve lighting in their communities. In areas where there is little or no street lighting, large sections of villages can become extremely dark after sunset. This makes it more difficult for local leaders to monitor their communities and creates particular safety concerns for women and girls, children, elderly people and anyone travelling through the village at night.
Every Home Global Concern is therefore seeking to provide solar-powered lights and the necessary installation infrastructure to villages across Savai‘i and Upolu, particularly in areas where improved lighting is urgently needed.
Solar lighting is especially suitable for these communities because it can operate independently of mains electricity, harnessing Samoa’s abundant sunlight to provide reliable outdoor illumination without ongoing electricity costs. The lights can also be sourced locally in Samoa and, according to the project submissions, installation can generally be completed within approximately one week.
This is much more than providing lights. It is about helping villages protect their people. By illuminating roads, pathways and shared community areas, we can support village Chiefs and local leaders in their efforts to keep their communities safe and give families greater confidence when moving around their villages after dark.
For these communities, solar-powered lighting is not a luxury — it is a vital safety need.
3.Equipping Communities and Supporting Education
Education is one of the most powerful tools for creating long-term opportunity. Our Samoa projects therefore include providing practical educational and digital equipment such as computers and laptops, projectors, projection screens, televisions and other learning resources.
On Savai‘i, one community has identified the need for a laptop, projector and screen, together with solar lighting. The equipment will have a broader community-development role, including supporting training in farming and agricultural practices and providing Maths and English tutoring for local students who are struggling at school. The project aims to help students better understand key concepts, improve their confidence and academic performance and, ultimately, improve their future opportunities.
On Upolu, another community project has requested a laptop, projector and flat-screen display, together with solar-powered lighting. The equipment can be sourced from suppliers within Samoa, reducing delays associated with importing goods and allowing communities to benefit sooner.
These resources can transform simple community spaces into places where children and adults can access tutorials, presentations, training, digital learning and skills-development programs.
Locally Identified Projects Across Samoa
These projects are being developed in response to needs identified by communities themselves. These are some of the villages that have already submitted requests for assistance and where our locally led Every Home Samoa team will be working alongside communities to deliver practical support:
- Faga village on the island of Savai‘i
- Faleasi‘u village on the island of Upolu
- Vaimoso village, on the island of Upolu
- Vailele village, on the island of Upolu
Our locally led Every Home Samoa team understands the communities, their challenges and their priorities. By working directly with local people, assistance can be directed where it is needed most and delivered in a practical and culturally appropriate way.
Reaching Communities Across Upolu and Savai‘i
Our vision is not limited to one village or one project. Every Home Global Concern wants to build a network of practical humanitarian and community-development initiatives reaching communities throughout Upolu, Savai‘i and other areas of Samoa where assistance is needed.
By working with people on the ground and listening to the needs identified by local communities, we can direct support where it can have meaningful and sustainable impact.
Whether it is a water tank providing greater water security, a solar light making the journey home safer, or a computer and projector opening new educational opportunities, relatively simple resources can make an enormous difference.
